Meet Paragon Certified Groom Tech Tamara Harlow! Based in Riceville, Tennessee, Tamara discovered her passion for dog grooming after years of working in retail, public service, and doggy daycare. Her experience caring for dogs every day inspired her to pursue a career where she could make a lasting impact on the lives of pets and their owners. Through Paragon’s Groom Tech Certification, Tamara built a strong foundation in grooming while expanding her knowledge of coat types, grooming techniques, and professional skills. She looks forward to continuing her education and using her talents to give back to both pets and her community.

Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
After 15 years working in retail, three years with the sheriff’s office and 911, and another three years working in doggy daycare, I fell in love with working with animals. Choosing a career where I get to work with these amazing dogs every day has been one of the best decisions of my life.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I enjoyed working with a variety of different dogs and learning about the many coat types, fur textures, grooming tools, and techniques. The course provided so much valuable information that helped me build my confidence and expand my knowledge with every groom.

I’m currently working on setting up an Instagram profile to showcase my grooming journey and work. Stay tuned, it’s coming soon!
What are your future goals?
I hope to volunteer with animal rescues and shelters so every dog has the opportunity to find a forever home looking and feeling their best.
I would also love to help pet owners who are unable to visit a grooming salon due to medical issues, travel limitations, or financial challenges. My goal is to make professional grooming more accessible while improving the lives of both pets and the people who love them.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Work hard, stay dedicated, and keep chasing your dreams no matter what anyone else says. If you set your mind to achieving your goals and continue putting in the effort, you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish.
