Star Groomer Excels at Making Shy Dogs Comfortable
Kol Brouwers has a clear talent for working with dogs! Honing their skills at PetSuites in Novi, Michigan, Kol just graduated Paragon’s Level 1 Groom Tech program. They love making shy dogs feel at home, and we’re proud of their achievements!
“Kol did so amazing in Level 1. They scored a 95% or above on all their computer tests with the exception of one 90%. The majority of their tests were 100%! They got a 99% on their Ears & Nails practical and 100% on Heavy Coated, Curly/Wavy, and Natural Foot! So awesome. They asked great questions and their grooming notes were really great too… very detailed. They always seemed to learn something from the dogs they were working with.” said Mentor Jen McCarthy.
From Kol:
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I chose dog grooming as a career because it felt like my calling! I’ve always loved animals, and I wanted to do something that put my cosmetology skills to good use, and grooming is the perfect fit. I love being able to help both pets and pet parents. There’s such a huge difference in attitude and behavior when a dog feels comfortable, and I love being able to be a part of that, helping a dog be able to live its life to the fullest!
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
While I enjoyed the entire process of grooming, my favorite thing to learn was proper handling. I did further research into dog body language and safe handling, and I plan to pursue additional courses to make the grooming process as safe and comfortable as possible for my future clients. There’s something so fulfilling when slow, gentle, kind handling has a shy dog coming out of its shell and showing affection! And of course, nothing beats a snuggles and kisses from a happy pup!
Are you currently employed, or still looking?
I’m currently employed with PetSuites of America in Novi, Michigan. It’s thanks to them that I was able to pursue this program!
What are your future goals?
The most important thing to me is being able to help dogs. It doesn’t particularly matter to me where I end up, as long as I’m able to accomplish that. If I were to pinpoint a specific goal, I would like to specialize in Golden Retrievers someday!
