They were on time with their submissions, communicated thoroughly with me when they had struggles, and were very coachable and open to feedback on where they could improve. I just know Des is going to be a force to be reckoned with as a Groom Tech and cannot wait to see them continue their new journey into Pet Grooming. Keep being you, Des!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
Since I was a child, I have always loved animals and art. Before entering the pet field, I started school at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, studying for illustration and design. I am currently enrolled there, and my anticipated graduation date will be in the spring of 2025.
During the pandemic, I had a mental breakdown, and I lost the job I had during my sophomore year at AAC. I needed a fresh start, and a healthy work environment. I knew that I would do well in an environment with animals since I’ve been around them most of my life, so I thought I’d give dog bathing a try. Two years of groom tech experience later, and I landed a groom student job at Pet Supplies Plus, which is where I am now, and I couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I really enjoyed watching the videos tagged with each quiz. I learned a lot from these videos and I use them for reference whenever needed.
Where can we see your work?
I haven’t started posting pics of my dogs I work on yet, but you can shoot me a follow on my art page on Facebook! I publish all the artwork I make, and you can see everything I’ve made since Middle School!
What are your future goals?
My dream is to do dog grooming and art together, as my passion for art and animals means everything to me. I also plan on doing pet portraits, album cover design, comic art, and biological illustrations.
Wherever the future takes me, animals and art will always be my passion, and I am very thankful to be part of the Paragon School of Grooming, and I hope to become an excellent groomer, and artist.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Shoot for the moon! When I started my job as a dog bather and groom assistant, I never knew I’d make it this far, and I’m so happy I did! If you absolutely adore animals like I do, have a desire for creativity, and love taking care of animals, give grooming a try! Its not for everyone, but always try something new before you decide you don’t like it. You won’t know until you try! Go for it!
