This Oregon Rising Star Finds Her Calling in Grooming
Meet Rising Star and Pet Groomer Grad Jessica Ready of Wilco Farm Store in Newberg, Oregon! We were impressed right away with Jessica’s innate knack for grooming. Now that she’s mastered the core skills, seeing her use grooming to connect with dogs and as a creative outlet has been awesome, and we can’t wait to see what she does next!
Her mentor Jen McCarthy tells us, “She has been a great student and she has such a natural talent for grooming! She takes care of each animal so well. A great student all around!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I wanted a career that involved dogs, but wasn’t sure what would be the best fit. I thought I wanted to be a dog trainer, but once I started grooming I realized it involves everything I was looking for in a career. I love being creative and working with dogs.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I really enjoyed seeing the dogs transform from when they entered the groom shop to when they left. It really amazed me how much more appealing you can make a dog look just from a good groom.
Where can we see your work?
I currently work at Wilco in Newberg, Oregon.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Grooming takes a lot of patience and repetition, but if you love dogs and have a creative mind it could be the perfect career for you.
