Rising Star Spotlight: Alexis Harris Finds Her Path in Professional Grooming
Meet Rising Star and is studying to become a Paragon Certified Pet Groom Tech Alexis Harris of Pet Supplies Plus in Cicero, New York.
Alexis completed our Groom Tech Program with focus, initiative, and a strong drive for technical mastery. Entering the program with no prior grooming experience, her journey reflects how dedication and curiosity can quickly turn passion into professional progress.
Alexis shares that while she has always adored pets, she was drawn to dog grooming because of the unmatched opportunity within the industry. With an entrepreneurial mindset, she saw grooming as a portable and scalable career path that offers flexibility, independence, and long-term growth.
Her mentor, Priscilla Wall, shares:
“Alexis came into the program with no grooming experience, but she has quickly caught on, and her work shows her efforts. She takes initiative in finding the dogs she needs, works hard, and her grooms are beautiful as a result. Alexis definitely sets the bar high! I am proud to be her mentor.
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
It goes without saying that I adore pets, but I chose dog grooming because I’m an entrepreneur at heart. Grooming is portable, scalable, and full of opportunity. You can build a career of any size or style, and I don’t see AI replacing groomers anytime soon.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
Acquiring technical mastery. Level 1 allowed me to see daily improvement in both understanding and execution, which made the hands-on learning incredibly rewarding.
Where can we see your work?
I currently work at Pet Supplies Plus in Cicero, New York, where I continue to grow as a grooming tech and apply my training every day.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Know your reasons for choosing this career. Keeping your “Big Why” in mind will carry you through challenges. Groomers love dogs not only at their best, but also when they’re stressed, patience, skill, and a sense of humor make all the difference.
