Student Trades Banking for Grooming Career
Meet Rising Star and Pet Groomer Grad Amber Hittman from See Spot Run on 21 in Omro, WI. Amber traded a 9-5 banking job to find a career she loved in dog grooming, and has been turning heads along the way.
Mentor Jilly Mucciarone calls Amber’s growth “Exceptional— She never gave up on stylized legs and worked very hard throughout the entire level. Her natural talent is a plus!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I worked at a bank and absolutely hated it. My best friend worked at a grooming salon and they were looking for a bather and I applied. I literally knew nothing about dogs (I grew up with cats) but figured I’d give it a try. I immediately took to it and became the lead bather. I started doing just strictly bath dogs and really wanted to groom like my co workers who are also my best friends!
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I loved learning all the new techniques shown in the videos and applying it to the dogs in the salon.
Where can we see your work?
I work at See Spot Run on 21 in Omro, WI. I always love posting my groom photos on there!
What are your future goals?
To work on my speed and scissoring skills
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Don’t give up! It’s a really hard job but the animals make it worth it! Also find a salon that will nurture you into an incredible groomer! Go to all the grooming shows and always always be willing to learn more.
