Rising Star and Groom Tech Grad: Exploring Grooming As A Successful Second Career
Meet Rising Star and Groom Tech Grad Amy Cooper of Pet Supplies Plus in Cheektowaga, New York! Amy has an astounding work ethic and has been moving through the program with ease. We’re so happy to see that she’s found passion in grooming and know she’ll find success in this industry.
Her mentor, Jen McCarthy agrees, telling us, “She has been so great at keeping up communication and updating me where she is with everything. She has gotten great grades on all her computer tests and has shown a great natural talent for the hands-on work as is evident by her awesome grades on her photo submission tests. Can’t wait to see where this program takes her!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I choose to start my grooming career because of My dog Mochi. He was diagnosed as an epileptic in 2022. I could not find a groomer who was comfortable grooming him so I began to slowly learn on my own. I watched videos and asked questions and went for it. I decided to go and do it professionally and here I am doing the Paragon school of grooming and working in a salon at Pet Supplies Plus.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I enjoyed being able to learn from my coach and mentor throughout the program. I was able to do all the coursework at a pace that I was comfortable with and ask any questions at anytime. I have an amazing staff at my salon who are very encouraging and helpful as well. It overall was an amazing experience.

What are your future goals?
My future goal is to build a career that I enjoy. This is a second career for me as my life is changing and my kids are grown.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
It’s never too late to begin a career in something you love.
