Meet Rising Star and Pet Groomer Grad Austin Davis of Pet Supplies Plus in Hartselle, Alabama! Austin is not one for the limelight, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t noticed his excellent work at the grooming table. Everyone who has worked with him throughout the program has nothing but praise, and we could not be more proud of him.
Austin’s mentor Liz Thompson agrees, sharing, “Austin may be one of the quieter voices in our program, but their work speaks volumes. Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I come from a background in dog training, and after 7+ years of working in that field, I wanted to explore another aspect of the dog world which led me to grooming.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I really bonded with my in person grooming trainer, Alice. She read me as a person very well and tailored her training style to one that best suited me and it made everything she taught me stick with me much better.

What are your future goals?
Once I get settled and established as a dog groomer, I would love to venture into creative grooming.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
My biggest piece of advice would be to communicate your needs with your mentor or trainer. If there’s an area that you are struggling with, don’t hesitate or feel embarrassed or ashamed to ask for clarification. Many times I would ask my trainer a question that I thought would be the dumbest question ever, but it turned out to be a great conversation about the subject. Knowledge is power.
