Rising Star & Pet Groomer Grad: This is what Hard-Earned, Well-Rounded Talent Looks Like
Meet Rising Star and Pet Groomer Grad Brandelyn Ifft of Wilco Farm Store in Silverton, Oregon! Brandelyn is a grooming rockstar – both thanks to her technical prowess at the grooming table and her soft skills with pets and their parents. We’re so excited to see where her journey leads her next!
Her mentor Jen McCarthy notes, “She has worked so hard and is so great with the dogs! She has a natural talent for grooming and got very high grades on all her tests. She is already an amazing groomer! Can’t wait to see what she does in our industry!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I have always had a passion for animals and love working with them hands on. I think grooming is the perfect career for someone who likes to keep busy (so busy) but still have a flexible schedule! Plus, you’ll never be out of work, there are too many people that love to pamper their dogs!
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I really enjoyed experiencing all the different coat types and how to work with each one to fit its needs. I loved the feeling of producing a quality groom each time and making the dogs feel loads better!
Where can we see your work?
I don’t have anything posted on my social media yet, but I hope to in the future!
What are your future goals?
I hope to continue learning and honing my skills as a groomer. Scissor work is what I find the most fascinating and there is always more to learn and practice when it comes to that. Mostly, I hope to have a long career in grooming and to bring joy to my clients by making their fur babies as plush and adorable as possible!
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Never stop learning! Always take advice from experienced groomers because they’ve seen it all and done it all. Know that you’re not going to be perfect right off the bat, it’s a skill just like anything else that you have to learn. If you’re passionate about grooming and you stick it out, you will be successful and love your job!
