Meet freshly minted Rising Star & Pet Groomer grad Gemma Macairan from Pet Supplies Plus in Woodland, CA. Gemma not only loves dog grooming, but she’s also proven to be a quick study!

Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I always thought that dog grooming was really interesting and looked fun. One day, a friend of mine, who is also a dog groomer, recommended me to try it out. I decided to change my job position and become a dog groomer. I’m so glad about my decision especially since this has been my most enjoyable job yet.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I enjoyed learning new and different techniques from both my fellow dog groomers that I work with and my mentor.

What are your future goals?
I’m going to continue to improve my dog grooming skills. While working as a dog groomer, I’m still going to college to major in Wildlife & Conservation.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
The dog grooming community is very helpful. Whenever you feel stuck or have a question, never be afraid to reach out to fellow dog groomer or your mentor.
