Finding the Right Path in Pet Care: Meet Paragon Graduate Hannah Nord
Meet Paragon Certified Groom Tech Hannah Nord! Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Hannah found her passion for grooming after years in the retail pet industry. Originally considering a future in veterinary medicine, Hannah quickly realized her path looked different after helping out in her store’s grooming salon and instantly falling in love with the work. Her mentor, Suesan Watson, shares:
“Hannah has really been fully motivated throughout Level 1. She always presented her work to showcase her skills well. Now that she has completed this level, I am so excited to see her skills as she continues on this journey. Hannah has been a student that proves that if you pick the right career path, you will excel. Congratulations!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I have worked in the retail pet industry for nearly five years and always wanted a fulfilling long-term career in the pet world. I originally considered veterinary medicine and quickly learned it was not for me. I began helping out at my store’s grooming salon and fell in love with the job right away. I love having new experiences every day and building relationships with dogs and their pet parents.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
My favorite part of the coursework was being able to apply the skills I was learning on real dogs and see my day-to-day improvements. I took lots of photos throughout the course, and comparing my first photos to later ones felt incredibly fulfilling. Seeing genuine improvement really helped build my confidence in the salon.
Where can we see your work?
You can find Hannah grooming at Chuck & Don’s in Minnesota and follow along with her journey on Instagram at @hannahhh.nordd.
What are your future goals?
I want to continue improving my skills and feel confident and successful working on grooms. I really love Asian fusion-style grooming, which is something I would love to practice in the future.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Don’t let your fears stop you from trying new skills, or from trying at all.
