This Rising Star Is Destined For Greatness: In The Salon and Conformation Ring
Meet Rising Star and Pet Groomer Grad Katlin Leonard of Red Fern Pet Lodge in Ocala, Florida! Katlin is super passionate about grooming and we can tell she gave it her all during every stage of the program. Her skills and her positive attitude will carry her far, and we hope to see her in the competition ring someday too!
Her mentor Priscilla Wall piles on the praise, telling us, “Katlin oozes positivity and kindness and it shows in every groom she sends! Very talented and works super hard to improve her skillset. I am blown away by each and every groom she sends!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I was seeking a career change a few years ago, but knew I wanted to stay within the pet industry. The opportunity to try grooming came about by happenstance, and I’ve been hooked ever since! I love that I can work the creative part of my brain to create cute, balanced trims, and that I get to see a visible difference in how the pet feels!
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
Learning new prep work techniques, and different ways to “finish” a trim.
Where can we see your work?
Mostly on my employer’s website/social media (The Red Fern Pet Lodge) but I occasionally post on my personal Instagram! @/aggressivelyfangirling
What are your future goals?
To continue learning as much as I can, always. I would eventually love to compete, in either creative grooming styles or breed specific trims!
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
To go slow, and be patient! This can be a tough job to learn, and there’s no need to rush yourself. Good quality takes time!
