Rising Star and Groom Tech Grad: This Groomer's Perfect Scores Are Well Earned
Meet Rising Star and Groom Tech Grad Kellie McClanahan of Petsense in Saint Robert, Montana! Here’s a groomer who sees the end goal and does everything she can to work towards it. No cut corners here, however. Kellie’s work is stunning, and she earned her perfect marks on a few of our trickier assignments. We’re so impressed with your work and can’t wait to see what’s next for you!
Just ask her mentor Jen McCarthy, who shares, “Kellie worked hard to make sure she stayed on time with her program. She asked questions when needed. She did great on all her hands-on tests, even scoring those rare 100% on her heavy coat and curly/wavy bath tests! She has the drive and determination to make a great groomer!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
My husband is in the military so with moving around a lot sometimes it can be difficult to find a job especially one that works with animals. I found that opportunity here and I am very excited to have taken that first step.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I really enjoyed being able to read the notes on what I could try different or work on with the after photos on the submission quizzes.
Where can we see your work?
I currently work at Petsense in Saint Robert, MO.
What are your future goals?
My future goals currently is to eventually take the next step to officially start haircuts and learn as much as I can. I’d also like to eventually be able to be on my own and not work through a corporation.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
My advice would be to take your time don’t overwhelm yourself and ask questions. There’s so many people who are willing to help if you feel lost or are if you are just not understanding how to do something to make grooming more efficient and easier.
