Rising Star and Pet Groomer Grad: Smiling Groomer Seeks To Better The Lives of Pets
Meet Rising Star and Pet Groomer Grad Maya Miller of Petsense in North Little Rock, Arkansas! Maya has one of the most positive attitudes we’ve ever encountered. Her work is as precise as it is stunning, and we’re so excited to watch her succeed as she begins her grooming career!
Her mentor Liz Thompson offers more praise, telling us, “Maya was such a positive light on this program. You can tell that she truly loves working with dogs and working on their grooms. It filled my heart to open up a message from Maya and read about how much she is loving this program and what she is doing! She is amazing at taking feedback and turning it into some beautiful work! I am so glad that we have another amazing groomer in this industry! Congratulations Maya!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I have always had an affinity for animals and knew that I wanted to pursue a job that would allow me to make a difference in their lives. When I started this program I had just moved to Arkansas with my husband and was trying to figure out what my next steps would be. I then got a job at my local Petsense by Tractor Supply as a dog bather.
About a month into the job, after seeing the difference that a dog groomer can make in the life of a dog, I knew that I wanted to do this as a career. I want to be a pillar of safety for animals that come into my shop. I love this job because of the smiles on owners’ faces when they see their family dog looking happy and healthy again.
I do this job for the rescue dogs that are looking for a new home and need to be tidied up. I do this job for the endless kisses and snuggles. But mostly, I got into this career because if there’s even one dog that I can help to feel special and loved, then it is worth it to me a million times over.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
The thing I enjoyed most about my coursework was learning about the anatomy and structure of dogs. I believe its one of the most important things to learn and it has helped me in so many ways!
Where can we see your work?
I have an Instagram where I post my work: @dogs_by_maya
What are your future goals?
My goal is to one day teach others how to get into this beautiful career!
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Never compare yourself to others! There will be times when you struggle to understand concepts or different grooms, but just know that hard work will always get you where you need to be! The only person that you should compare yourself to is you! You just have to believe in yourself and know that you have it in you to achieve your goals!
