Meet Rising Star and Paragon Certified Professional Pet Stylist Melissa Skates of K-9 Klips Mobile Pet Spa in San Augustine, Texas! Melissa has been a rockstar student and has the entrepreneurial spirit you need to be successful in this business. Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I’ve always enjoyed working with animals and dogs in particular. I worked as a vet technician years ago and have always been known as a “dog person” to friends and family. I started grooming my own dogs and others years ago but wanted to learn more. I guess you could say I grew into it!
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I’ve discovered a deep love for poodles and their hair, lol. I’ve enjoyed honing my skills and learning new things and I love all the dogs I get to work with.

What are your future goals?
To run a successful full service salon offering grooming/boarding/daycare and to have a stellar reputation as the best in my area.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Go for it! You won’t get better if you don’t get moving! Paragon has definitely helped me achieve my goals.
