Rising Star Moves to the United States and Begins a Bright Grooming Career
Meet Rising Star and Groom Tech Grad Mia Zhou, who is training to open her own grooming business storefront in Nevada. Mia came to the United States from China with her dog, and simply needed a place to have the dog groomed. Not having much luck, Mia began learning how to groom dogs herself, which then lead to her coming to Paragon on her own.
Mia has made great progress toward her goal of opening her own salon. Her mentor Jilly Mucciarone tells us, “Mia’s desire to learn and grow has been admirable and her dedication while doing this alone is amazing; she’s looking to move from a home salon to a storefront and I’m sure she’ll be successful!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I brought my dog from China to Las Vegas, but there wasn’t a good groomer around my house. When the pandemic hit, I left the art teaching business and decided to become a dog grooming apprentice in pet salons. At first, it was to learn to groom my own dog, but I wanted to learn the skills professionally too.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
There’s a lot of basic knowledge that I should have known 3 years ago, but no one taught me. Paragon resolved my confusion about choosing the correct professional product, the difference between natural and round feet, and canine anatomy. My mentor, Jilly Mucciarone, has been super helpful during my Level 1 journey. The Groom Tech Program is the foundation for my future grooming career.
