Rising Star and Pet Groomer Grad: Self-Taught Groomer Takes An Important Next Step Toward Success
Meet Rising Star and Pet Groomer Grad Taeghan Maguire of Pups At Play in Rindge, New Hampshire! Teaghan, like many, began her pet grooming journey on YouTube. This gave her a significant advantage in our Groom Tech and Pet Groomer programs while also helping her spot and fill gaps in her knowledge. She has an excellent work ethic and we can’t wait to see what her future holds!
Her mentor Suesan Watson adds, “Taeghan has been a model student for Level 2. She worked hard and stayed on track completing the program a little early. Taeghan was always excited to show her work and asked what needed to be improved. She is very detailed and wants each pup to look their best. This is what is going to make her excel as a groomer. Congratulations! Well done!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I have always wanted to work with dogs, I got my dog Bella when I was 10 and it all started there. I began grooming her myself with YouTube tutorials when first got her. I eventually started working at a dog daycare facility and they gave me an opportunity to go through Paragon Pet School and learn more about grooming. Now it’s my favorite thing to do!
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I really enjoyed learning new things that I had no idea about! Prepping curly coats for haircuts was my favorite thing I learned. It took a lot of practice but my mentor was incredibly helpful. I love helping the pets feel and look their best.
What are your future goals?
I would love to start creative grooming eventually. I really love art and how it can tie into dog grooming so I think it would be really cool to try out! I also really want to learn how to do breed specific trims in the future.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Be patient, loving, and have fun. Help the dogs understand that grooming can be fun! Patience and building a bond with each dog is important in helping the pets feel their best, while you help them look their best.
