Meet Paragon Certified Pet Groomer Taylor Thomasson! With Pet Supplies Plus in Mayfield, Kentucky, Taylor discovered dog grooming through a lifelong passion for animals and a desire for a creative, purposeful career. She wanted to build a career where she could work hands-on with pets while creating an environment where they feel safe, comfortable, and cared for. With Paragon, Taylor strengthened her technical skills, expanded her understanding of canine behavior, and developed a deeper appreciation for breed-standard grooming and professional pet care.

Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
My journey into dog grooming stems from a lifelong passion for animals and a desire for a creative, purposeful career. I wanted a profession where I could work hands-on with pets every day, focusing deeply on building trust and making them feel safe in my care. There is nothing more rewarding than transforming a dog’s appearance and confidence, ensuring they leave my table happy, healthy, and comfortable!
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
What I enjoyed most about my coursework was how perfectly it blended technical skills, canine behavior, and expert mentorship. The structured lessons in breed-standard trims and anatomy gave me a precise foundation, while learning to read a dog’s body language completely transformed how I build trust on the table. Throughout it all, the invaluable feedback from my mentor pushed me to elevate my work and strive for excellence. It was incredibly rewarding to watch my passion transform into professional expertise under their guidance.

What are your future goals?
My future goals are centered around continuous growth and mastering my craft. I plan to pursue advanced certifications, specialize in creative grooming and specific breed standards, and stay at the forefront of industry safety practices. Ultimately, I want to be a mentor to new groomers and continue elevating the salon experience for pets and their parents.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
My best advice for aspiring groomers is to embrace patience and never stop learning. Grooming is an art form that takes time to master, so celebrate your progress and learn from every challenge. Always prioritize building trust with the animals on your table. When you put their safety and comfort first, everything else falls beautifully into place.
