A Lifetime Passion Refined: Tracy LaRock-Claggett’s Grooming Journey
Meet Paragon Certified Groom Tech Tracy LaRock-Claggett! Based out of Cary, North Carolina with Pet Supplies Plus, Tracy brings a lifelong passion for grooming into her professional journey. Inspired by her mother’s work as a groomer, Tracy grew up surrounded by the craft and magic of transforming dogs through grooming. Now, she is building on that foundation with formal training, dedication, and a commitment to excellence.
Her mentor, Suesan Watson, shares:
“Tracy worked hard throughout Level 1 to show that grooming is the career she wants to be in. Tracy took her time with each skill to get it as close to where it needed to be the first time around. She wanted the feedback to see what she could improve on, even if it were just a little thing. I am excited to see the work Tracy will do for the next level, as I know she will always strive to do her best. Congratulations.”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
Dog grooming is something I grew up with. My mom was a dog groomer and I always enjoyed seeing the magic she created, watching the finished result walk out of her shop. As I grew up, I pursued other career opportunities while my mom continued to teach me everything she knew about grooming. Eventually, I started grooming my own dogs, then friends’ dogs, and it continued to grow from there.
Now, as I enter my next phase of life, I chose to attend Paragon Pet School to expand my knowledge of the industry, learn new techniques, and continue growing in a field that still brings me the same smile and sense of wonder every time a beautifully groomed dog walks out the door.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I enjoyed working with the dogs the most, of course. Beyond that, a couple of things really stood out:
Learning that holding the high velocity dryer closer to the dog does not create knots when done correctly. I had always been taught to hold it farther away, so this made me much more efficient.
Learning how to effectively use a slicker brush. The gentle pat technique was a complete game changer for me.

What are your future goals?
My goals are to complete the program and continue working with Pet Supplies Plus in Cary, North Carolina while refining my skills to become the best groomer I can be. I want our location to become the grooming destination in the area, known for consistently excellent results and a team that supports, teaches, and grows together to serve every client with care.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Work hard, do not cut corners, always be honest, and make time for a few doggy kisses.
