Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I’ve always loved animals, especially dogs. It’s a great way to express creativity through different styles and breeds of dogs. I’ve always preferred hands-on work and having the opportunity to eventually run my own business or mobile service.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I enjoyed the hands-on grooming sessions the most. It was incredibly rewarding to apply what we learned in class and see the real-time transformation in the dogs we worked with. Also mastering techniques like scissoring, clipping, and dematting, further more improving my confidence and creativity.
Where can we see your work?
You’re welcome to stop by Colby’s Dogcare & Spa in Washington D.C., where I groom regularly. Some of my work is featured on the salon’s social media. For more information please message me – I always keep a photo log of my grooms that I can share upon request.
What are your future goals?
Earning my Master Groomer certification is definitely on the list as one of my goals. I’m also interested in becoming a content creator on social media and different streaming platforms!
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Be patient, grooming takes time to perfect and master. Patience is key in learning your craft. Don’t give up, some things may be hard, difficult, and maybe sometimes a cut/groom could turn out not how you like it, that isn’t a reason to doubt or give up on yourself.
Keep learning, keep going stay curious, always ask questions, no question is a dumb or stupid question. We are here to learn, educate and show how we can improve not only different breeds of dogs we take in but all the families lives you’re changing by making a beautiful transformation.
