Rising Star and Pet Groomer Grad: Shining Student Brims With Positivity
Meet Rising Star and Paragon Certified Professional Pet Groomer Zaria Smith of Petsense in Goose Creek, South Carolina! Zaria is a font of creativity, positivity, and talent, but what impressed us most was her constant communication. Every time she got feedback from us, we’d see it reflected in her next assignment. She’s well on her way to grooming greatness!
Just ask her mentor, Suesan Watson, who shares, “Zaria shone all throughout Level 2. She checked in almost every day. She stayed positive and was so excited when she improved on a skill. If she did a haircut on a pup that she was proud of, she shared it with me so I could see how she was doing, because she wanted me to be proud, too. Because she wants to be the best she can be, I know Zaria will continue to learn all she can to meet that goal. Congratulations, Zaria!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
Choosing dog grooming wasn’t something I chose, it’s something that chose ME. The profession stood out to me, being the natural animal lover I already am, so it was bound to reach me and my interest in it. It has helped me get to know dogs not only on a physical level but spiritually and emotionally, too.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
My favorite thing about my coursework was seeing the immaculate difference between the before and afters. I always got excited, and it made me feel more confident in my work, making me more eager to know what other details I could do to piece it all together.
Where can we see your work?
My work will eventually be seen on social platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
What are your future goals?
My future goals are to be great enough to enter small showcasing competitions, but for now, my main goal will be to focus on really crisping up my details and finding my own individuality/strategic tactics to make an effortless finish while continuing to make others happy with my work.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Take your time and don’t give up, even if you feel like it! Always get to know your furry client pal and understand them on a deep level to be as patient as you possibly can with them. Due to our communication barrier, sometimes we have to play as Dr. Dolittle!
