Meet Rising Star and Paragon Certified Professional Groom Tech Zaria Smith of Petsense in Goose Creek, South Carolina! Zaria isn’t one to shy away from hard work, and now she’s reaping the benefits in spades. She has a solid foundation of knowledge to build her career on, and we’re sure she’ll find success in the grooming world!

Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I chose to pursue dog grooming because I aspire to excel in growing my skills with dogs as a whole. I want to be as versatile as possible and know how to care for dogs through every aspect during their lifespan, including veterinary.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I really enjoyed building friendships and getting to see different dog breeds, and dogs letting me work on them. The biggest thing I always looked forward to during my coursework was the outcome! Especially the bath and brush results in seeing how drastically different a dog can look with extra floof.
Where can we see your work?
I’m in the process of building a portfolio now, so nothing at the moment.
What are your future goals?
My future goals are to become a veterinarian surgeon, and I know I will be able to apply my knowledge to medical needs.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Even in the roughest times, take your time and pace yourself. The more passionate you are about reaching your goals, the more you will grow a connection physically, mentally, and emotionally with your furry client to help understand them better. Remember that what you give is what you receive!
