This Rising Star Turned Heads With Her Fast Learning, Sharp Skills, and Love of Animals
Meet Rising Star and Groom Tech Grad Emma Nelson of Petsense in Ellensburg, Washington! Emma is a quick study, and her hunger for knowledge has led to accurate, efficient work. If she continues learning and sharpening her grooming skills, we’re certain that she will do very well in this industry.
Her mentor, Jen McCarthy, agrees, telling us, “She was a great student who asked questions when needed and really kept her nose to the grindstone to work hard and complete her level almost a month early! She took feedback when needed and followed instructions very well. A pleasure to have as a student.”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
Grooming showed up in my life at the right place and the right time. I have always loved animals and recently decided I wanted to focus my career on them as well. I’ve also always be very artistic and I felt that dog grooming was a great combination for me.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I really enjoyed the canine anatomy portion. I am a scientist at heart so I had so much fun learning about the parts of the dog and how there are used in professional grooming.

I currently to not have any of my work posted publicly.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Give yourself the time as space to learn and grow. Things will get easier, it just takes time. Remember why you chose their field and focus on making the dogs calm and comfortable.
