Illinois Groomer Thrives at Pet Supplies Plus
Monica Mendez of Schaumburg, Illinois is pursuing her passion! Grooming dogs at Pet Supplies Plus, she hones her craft each day. Monica just graduated Paragon’s Level 1 – Groom Tech program, and we couldn’t be more proud!
From mentor Liz Thompson: “I am very blown away on how independent Monica is within her course work and practical testing. She is passing each online test with flying colors and showcasing that same strength through her knowledge in the grooming portion of the program. Monica has passed each section almost perfectly the first time and has not needed a reset to date. I look forward to seeing what she will be bringing to the table in Level 2!”

Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I originally wanted to be a vet tech but putting animals down didn’t sit well for me. Grooming helps me care for dogs whether its to relieve their skin with mint/oatmeal shampoo or taking care of an uncomfortable mat or helping dogs lose a little fur weight during shedding seasons. Grooming also taught me how many different attitudes dogs have, how to handle rowdy dogs, and how to identify any skin related issues so that I can help the pet parents.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
Other than the obvious – seeing adorable dogs – I’ve enjoyed how helpful the other groomers have been with me. They are great when it comes to getting advice if my coach is busy with her dogs or unavailable. They helped me with techniques on how to remove the fur in the paw pads and how to different ways to angle my arm.
Are you currently employed, or still looking?
I am employed at Pet Supplies Plus.
What are your future goals?
My goal is to continue to groom as much as I can and learn different techniques for grooming dogs.
