Meet Rising Star and Pet Groomer Grad Shantel Morel-Torres of Petsense in Raleigh, North Carolina! Shantel is not one to shy away from a challenge. Combine that with her professionalism, passion for animals, and eagerness to learn, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone that she completed the program early. We’re so proud of her accomplishments!
Her mentor Suesan Watson shares our thoughts, noting “Shantel was engaged, asked questions, and didn’t let any part of this intimidate her, her grooms were well done, and she detailed the finish on her grooms to really show off her skills. She was a pro all the way and even completed this level early. I have no doubt that she will be a star in her salon. So proud to have been paired as her Mentor. Awesome job!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I have a passion for animals and wanted to learn more about them while also experiencing a hands-on approach. Paragon and grooming as a whole have allowed me to do that! I get to constantly be with animals while providing comfort for not only the pet but to the owners as well. Making pets look even cuter is also a plus!
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
Getting to experience new things with every module. I love learning, so getting to learn about my passion just elevated the experience of the program. My favorite was elevating every part of a pet to create a clean and put-together look using the Theory of 5.
Where can we see your work?
I have not set up anywhere to show my work, but I am planning to as I further my career!
What are your future goals?
I am planning to do grooming throughout college until I become a veterinarian. I will use all the knowledge grooming has brought me, like animal behavior, anatomy, the safe use of sharp objects around an animal, and many more skills.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Keep at it even when it is hard. This job is rewarding but also comes with its challenges. Everything may seem nerve-racking initially, but it will feel like second nature to you with time. Keep striving, and you will achieve more than you would have ever predicted with this job!
