Rising Star & Groom Tech Grad: Promising Start to a Fulfilling Grooming Career
Meet Rising Star and Groom Tech Grad Tessa Putney of Pet Supplies Plus in Ames, Iowa! Tessa is a dedicated and motivated learner. It’s been a joy having her in the program and we were always excited to see her Time To Practice submissions!

Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I recently started working with Pet Supplies Plus alongside my service dog, Arden. He is a rough Collie who requires regular grooming so I had been doing this myself at home. However, after observing and training alongside the other pet groomers, I realized the satisfaction I got from being able to educate neighbors and provide a fulfilling service!
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I really enjoy working with double coated breeds especially during shedding season! It is amazing to see the transformation of their coats and how happy the dog and owner are.

What are your future goals?
I plan to get my next certification – becoming a certified dog groomer.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Get as much as experience as you can and take on the dirty work! Some of my favorite grooms were with huge impactions and in huge need of a definite spa day!
