Rising Star Amy Johnson: Pro Results Through Practice and Study
Meet Rising Star and Pet Groomer Grad Amy Johnson of Pet Supplies Plus in Hope Mills, North Carolina! Amy has been an excellent student and we were all so impressed with how professional her grooming assignments looked She’s never been one to shy away from feedback and you can see the results in every groom. We can’t wait to see what she does next!
Her mentor Suesan Watson adds, “Amy went through the Pet Groomer Program as if she had been grooming for a long time. She sent work to be previewed and applied critiques to her next dog. When she did submit her work, it was always well prepped, clipper work was smooth and well blended, and her scissor skills were extremely well done. She followed her dream and made it come true; she will make an excellent groomer. Well Done, Amy!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I chose dog grooming as a career because animals, especially dogs, have always been my biggest passion. I strive to obtain the knowledge needed to provide the best care possible. Coming from a rural area, pet grooming wasn’t popular but it’s where I belong and feel I can make the most impact.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I enjoyed the exponential growth from the coursework the most. Going from week to week, then thinking back “I didn’t know that,” and “I couldn’t do that,” to it being natural was so gratifying. Material wise, I loved learning about potential health concerns and although it was my biggest struggle, the stylized legs was my favorite trim to learn.
Where can we see your work?
Pet Supplies Plus, Hope Mills NC.
What are your future goals?
My future goals are to better my skills, share my knowledge with pet parents, as well as aid them in caring for and pampering their beloved companions.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Our mistakes teach us the most, we all start not knowing, it’s the perseverance to do it anyway that makes our shortcomings our biggest assets!
