Trading Army Fatigues for Grooming Scrubs
Emma Schwab has served her country with the US Army, and now she’s ready to serve K9s of every coat at Pet Supplies Plus in Camarillo, CA! She completed Paragon’s Level-2 Pet Groomer corporate training program, and graduated with flying colors.
“Emma has shown such an amazing strength and understanding of every skill within this program. It was an absolute pleasure to watch her grow and showcase beautiful attention to detail on every groom that she submitted. Emma was able to achieve high grades through both levels which can be very difficult to do. I am so proud to have been there to support Emma in her dream career,” said Mentor Liz Thompson.

Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I always had an affinity for animals. I worked with horses for a majority of my life. I eventually joined the US Army where I had very little interaction with any animals because of my job. Nearing the end of my contract, I was determined to work with animals again. There were so many options to choose from, but I finally stumbled upon dog grooming and quickly grew an attraction for the occupation. I knew it was going to challenge me and provide the type of continuous growth I sought out. At that point, I knew dog grooming was destined to be my next journey.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I loved all the hands-on practice we received. Every dog has a different coat type, size, proportion, personality, etc., and the more I was exposed to, the more I learned. Dog grooming is a lot of repetition and experience. I also liked the amount of resources Paragon provided. It helped mitigate the stress of the program and allowed me to optimize my education.
Where Can We See You At Work?
I am currently employed at Pet Supplies Plus in Camarillo, CA.
What are your future goals?
Short term, I certainly want to learn more breed specific grooming styles. Long term, I hope to expand my knowledge to new groomers in a multi-purpose practice.
