This Rising Star's Drive To Help Animals Look and Feel Their Best Underpins Her Great Grooming!
Meet Rising Star and Groom Tech Grad Sierra Southard of Petsense in Reidsville, North Carolina! Sierra started her grooming journey in an animal hospital, and even though that’s noble profession, we can really see that she’s enjoying the grooming side of animal care even more.
Her mentor Suesan Watson pours on the praise, telling us, “Sierra did so well in Level 1, and what impressed me was the fact that she was a part-time student. She was so focused and precise with her work that she finished way early. She worked hard and put what she learned into every dog. I have no doubt that she will rock Level 2 as well. Great Job!”
Why did you choose dog grooming as a career?
I knew I wanted to work with animals for most of my life. I began working in an animal hospital and as much as I loved being around the animals, I was heartbroken every time I had to witness an injured animal come through the doors. After helping the techs shave mats off a neglected dog, I knew I wanted to go into grooming so I could continue to help dogs and cats feel more comfortable and look amazing in their day-to-day life.
What did you enjoy most during your coursework?
I loved that there was a way to make sure I got the physical learning in for every lesson.
Where can we see your work?
Petsense by Tractor Supply in Reidsville, NC.
What are your future goals?
I plan to become a certified master groomer and do show grooms.
Any advice for aspiring groomers?
Never tell yourself you can’t do it. You can do it! It may seem hard or impossible at first, but you can do it with practice and hard work!
